This

the historic Newari town of Panauti. Along the way, you’ll encounter the
vibrant traditions of the Magar and Tamang communities, witness
stunning Himalayan panoramas, and explore centuries-old temples that tell the
story of Nepal’s living heritage.
1. Sanga – The Starting Point
- Begin your journey in Sanga, known for the
towering Kailashnath Mahadev statue — one of the tallest Shiva
statues in the world.
- Meet your local hiking guide who will lead the way and
share insider stories of the region.
- Pass through Magar settlements, noticing the earthy
tones of stone-and-wood houses, the sound of traditional music drifting
from courtyards, and the distinct Magar dialect in conversation.
2. Ascending to Khalchowk Danda
- The trail winds uphill to Khalchowk Danda, the
highest point of the hike at 1,850 m.
- As you climb, the landscape opens to sweeping views of Dorje
Lakpa, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar, Langtang, and other Himalayan
giants.
- Pause at scenic spots for water breaks and photos — the
ridge here is a natural balcony to the mountains.
3. Through Tamang Heartland
- Descend gently into a Tamang village, where
Tibetan roots are reflected in Buddhist chortens, prayer wheels, and
colourful mani walls.
- Interact with locals, learn about their agricultural
practices, and hear folk tales passed down through generations.
- This section offers a deep cultural immersion, with the
pace of walking allowing time to notice the scent of woodsmoke, the
flutter of prayer flags, and the sound of laughter from village
courtyards.
4. Arrival in Panauti
- The final stretch leads you to Panauti, one of
Nepal’s best-preserved Newari towns.
- Explore the Indreshwor Mahadev Temple, ancient
brick houses, carved wooden windows, and riverside ghats where daily
rituals unfold.
- Your guide will share the town’s fascinating myths,
festival traditions, and the role Panauti played as a historic trading
hub.
5. Journey’s End
- After your exploration, a private vehicle will take you
back to Dhulikhel, giving you time to relax and reflect on the
day’s journey.
- This hike offers more than just natural beauty — it’s a
living tapestry of cultures, traditions, and landscapes that define rural
Nepal.
